And Then They Came For Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank
This week you will be seeing the Amity fall play: And Then They Came For Me.
I want you to critique the production. IN DETAIL explain what you thought of the overall production. What did you particularly like? What didnt you like? What performance (by one actor) did you like the most? What do you think the message of the play was? Did this production convey that message effectively. What did you think of the set, light and costumes? What did you think of the multimedia (video) element of the play? Did the video create a stronger story?
ANSWER ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS IN YOUR POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really liked the costumes and stage setting of the play because it made me feel as if I we were in that time. I also really liked the actors in the pla because they were very realistic and into their characters. I did not like the transition of the sets because the audience heard it drop each time they brought it out. I liked the performance of Peter C. the most because he was very into his character and was very believable. The message of the play was the horrible discrimination faced by Jews, blacks, gypsies, and homosexuals during the Holocaust and to be thankful for the freedom and good lifes that we have. This production conveyed the message very effectively. The set, light, and costumes were great because they went with the mood of the play which was very dark and sad and it also went with the timeframe of the play which was the 1940's. I thought the video helped explain the play more. The video did create a stronger story because we heard the people who were actually from the Holocaust tell the story to us as well as the actors in the play. The play was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the overall production was very moving. It really portrayed the message of the horror that really took place, and how people struggled through it. The actors did a tremendous job of letting me see the story through the eyes of their characters. I didn’t like how loud the transitions were, it took you out of the feeling of the production and made you remember that you were just watching a show. I like the performance of the actor being a member of the Hitler Youth. It was extremely poignant to see the strong grip that fallowing orders had on the children of that day and age. I liked how the show switched back and fourth between a few different narrators. I thought that the set was very good in that it gave the actors something to work with without being distracting the audience from the actors or being cumbersome to change during scene changes. The costumes really helped portray the image of the time frame of the show and the situations that the characters we in. I thought that the lighting did a magnificent job of illustrating the mood of the show, the cool lights of blue helped to show that it was night but also to give the audience a sense of danger and fear. I think that the video helped to create a stronger story because you got to know how the character felt at the moment something happened and how they felt looking back at it in hindsight. i thought it was a wonderful play.

I agree with Ashley. The play was 'very pitiful towards the jews.' Yes the jews may have been the majority of the murders committed, but there were many many others that were killed during hitler's rampage.
ReplyDeleteI loved the character Eva. I felt like I could connect with her more than Peter. Also Anne was portraied as a verry cute and funny character and made me realize: she is just like any other girl. She brought some light upon the fact that these were innocent children as well as innocent adults.
The scene changes drew some attention away from how serious the play should be. people were dropping things and making a lot of noise and it was very distracting.
But with the video with the characters as survivors, the play was very believable and almost made me cry
I forgot to answer some of the questions. The costumes were very believable and the lights were normaly dim wich gave the show a mysterious and dark feel. The set was simple and useful.
ReplyDeletei beleive and then they came for me was a perfect capture of the time. Showing just how faithful cruel merciful compassionate people, cross paths and what happens when they do. Acting was phenomenal coming as one with the charecters and showing the emotion a person would have actually living it. I would have to say that the transitions between each scene ws a little to loud and you can tell everyone was in a hurry. To me though my favorite was the hitler youth boy. to see just how loyal and how strong a grip a country can have on a boy. the message i received from the play is just how cruel a person can be but also how faithful and kind another is. showing the politics invloved with a war and how people, who have nothing against each others change when commanded to. the costumes were dead on accurate. the old coats the jew star the way the hair was done the hitler youth costume was outstanding fitting him perfect with the boots and the strap. to me those were the things that stood out to me. the video captureed it perfectly. showing the real people helped protray the mood and put you in the right mindset. then the actors hit every seen perfect. especially with the lighting and talking in unison with the videos. to me i wuould have payed money to see. no wonder you won the new england arts award
ReplyDeletei had swine flu, so i didn't see it
